Scandinavian Made is truly a dream come true. It is a dream on several levels for both of us - Susan Serra, owner of her own design firm for 20+ years and daughter, Kelly Serra Donovan, curator and design observer for 15 years. As we have visited our families' homes over the years in and around Copenhagen, parts of Zealand and Bornholm (all environs within Denmark) Scandinavian design has been in our hearts (as well as in our DNA!) Our Danish family heritage is documented back to the mid 1800s and most likely beyond. Most recently in our Scandinavian family tree, Susan's Danish parents emigrated to the US in the late 1940s, keeping many Danish traditions alive in the household. It has been my (Susan's) dream for many years to create a shop for which we would travel to Scandinavia to find, curate and import beautiful decorative items to share with those who appreciate this incredible design aesthetic. Kelly Serra Donovan shares this passion as a result of living with Susan's vintage pottery and other artisinal collections in our home for as long as she can remember. Lastly, to work together as mother and daughter, both of whom have a love of Scandinavian design, is the greatest gift of all. The perspectives of two generations contribute to a very well rounded collection of pieces, sure to connect with many who share our aesthetic point of view. Some pieces are chosen by each of us separately and some pieces are chosen together. We are truly excited to bring these beautiful works of art, never before available for purchase in the US, into our shop to be collected and cherished as future heirlooms.
